Google Nexus 5 Hidden Features Users Should Know

By

Nexus 5 is Google's current flagship although the upcoming Google I/O may mean a hardware cycle. For those using the current Nexus 5, here are some tips on accessing the device's hidden features for better user experience.

1. Photos while recording

-No more pausing videos and taking screenshots to capture a photo of a part of any video! While recording a video on your phone, tapping the screen will automatically make your phone take a photo and put it in your gallery. It will be in the same resolution as any photo the Nexus 5 will take, and will most likely be focused.

2. Unblock foul language

-Google disables saying any bad words when you use their voice to text features. The keyboard will not suggest any curse words as well. In order to swear on Android, you can uncheck the Block offensive words in the Google keyboard settings.

3. Enable developer options

-Google has removed the hidden menu called Developer Options in order to prevent users from messing with important system settings. This has resulted in users being unable to use this menu to fix a variety of things. For example, when enabling the USB debugging for using the phone as a hotspot or rooting the device. To enable Developer Options, tap settings and head to About Phone. Scroll down to the bottom and you will see the Android build number. Tap the previously mentioned build number 7 times in quick succession. After the 7 taps, the developer menu will become available in the settings menu.

4. Kit Kat Easter Egg

-If you tap the Android version in the phone settings, you will see a hidden feature from Google. It will show a spinning letter K that you can tap and hold to see an Android 4.4 KitKat splash screen. If you tap and hold it again, you will find a collage of stuff like eclairs, cupcakes, jelly beans, and all the other previous names of the Android versions. You can then tap them and have a little fun with it. Not really important, but cool nonetheless.
