The Los Angeles Clippers are looking to make run on LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, who have exercised their rights to become free agents this coming July, if the team manages to create enough salary cap room to offer the two super stars a max-level contract, according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne. How the Clippers are going to pull out such a move, however, remains unknown as discussions involving LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony have been internal thus far.
Such a grand scheme would surely require a lot of tinkering and for the Clippers to make room for both stars, they would need to make sign-and-trade moves that includes several of their key players like big man DeAndre Jordan, shooting guard Jared Dudley, swingman Matt Barnes, reigning 6th man of the year Jamal Crawford, and sharp-shooter J.J Redick. Blake Griffin won't likely be part of any deal as the Clippers have always made it known in the past that he is "untouchable" in any trade scenario.
But the more likely scenario for the Clippers would be to bring in either LeBron James or Carmelo Anthony to L.A. LeBron James, in particular, has been linked to the Clippers numerous times in the past 3 months because of his close relationship with Chris Paul and Doc Rivers. Reports revealed that LeBron is interested in playing with the Clippers because of the team's contender status and because Chris Paul is one of James best friends.
The Two stars have talked about playing with each other since they were in high school, when they met on the AAU and prep all-star circuits. Paul is also the Godfather to James' son Bryce and they were present in each other's weddings.
Now that LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony are free agents, look for the Clippers to make a strong move on acquiring one or two of the marquee stars. If they do manage to land either one of them, then we will be looking at a different Clippers team and a Western conference in general next season.
