2014 NBA Free Agency: LeBron James opts out, adds more speculation about his future

By

After the Miami Heat got crushed by the San Antonio Spurs in last season's NBA Finals, many have been speculating on LeBron Jame's future with the team. But right now, at least it seems we are finally getting a hint on what he is going to do next in this summer's 2014 NBA Free Agency after ESPN's Chris Broussard revealed that James has decided to opt out of his current contract with the Heat, which means he will be a free agent starting June 30 and will be free to entertain offers from other teams and sign with any team that he wants.

James's opting out tells us that either The King is looking to take his talents to another team elsewhere or is planning on resigning a long-term deal with the Miami Heat. He can definitely get to any team he wants because at this point in his career, he has the skill-set, talent, experience, and leadership to take any team from lottery-bound to contender status with just the blink of an eye. But he can also resign with the Heat and take less to give the team the flexibility to upgrade the roster and add more championships to his resume once its all said and done.

James has made it known in the past the he loves Miami and wants to stay with the Heat but the team clearly needs to make some significant moves to ensure that he stays with them for good. James wants the Heat to improve and he was pretty disappointed with the loss of Mike Miller. We saw the Heat crumble in front of the Spurs even with James being James in almost every game of the finals series. We also saw Wade on the decline, Bosh not getting the best of his match up with an old Duncan, and a Heat bench that couldn't make life easy for James.

But if anything, James opting out has further created more speculation about his future. Is The King eying a return to the Cleveland Cavaliers? Is he planning a tag team with Carmelo Anthony somewhere? Is he moving out west and team up with Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers or perhaps Chris Paul and the Clippers? Who knows what he will do next but right now we will just have to stay tuned.
