The 4th of July is just around the corner. If you'll be in New York City at this time of year, there will be a wide array of options where you can celebrate and catch the spectacular fireworks. Here are some of the places you should take note of.
This year, the annual Macy's 38th annual 4th of July display will take place on the East River rather than the Hudson (where it was held for the past five years), which means that lower Manhattan and Brooklyn residents will get great views of the pyrotechnics.
Amy Kule, executive producer of Macy's 4th of July Fireworks said that this year will once again inspire audiences as the fireworks illuminated the lower Manhattan and Brooklyn skies.
"This year, we are thrilled to incorporate the magnificent Brooklyn Bridge as a showcase for never-before-seen effects and as a stunning backdrop to the multi-dimensional, hyperkinetic experience of the nation's best Independence Day fireworks display," she added.
If you will be in the area and want to witness spectacular fireworks, here are the places you should take note of. NY Daily News has provided the following suggestions:
- Manhattan - Elevated portions of the highway will be closed to traffic--"Entry points include Montgomery and South Sts., for viewing between the Manhattan Bridge and Montgomery St.; Brooklyn Bridge entry from St. James Place (Pearl St.) and Wagner Place, for viewing north and south of the bridge; and Broad St. and/or Old Slip at Water St., for viewing between the heliport and the south side of the bridge."
- Brooklyn Bridge Park, Brooklyn Bridge Promenade, and Brooklyn streets, like "Montague St. from Court St. to Montague Terrace.
- River cruises - If you want to watch the fireworks from the river, there will be cruises available by companies like Spirit cruises and World Yacht. The boats will depart at around 6pm, and the tickets will be priced at around $150 to $350. These fees would give you food, drinks, and music.
- Rooftop celebrations - Rooftop parties would also be available. For $10 to $20, you'd be able to have some drinks and great views from places like Berry Park and the Z Rooftop Bar.
The 38th annual Macy's 4th of July Fireworks will showcase over 40,000 pyrotechnic shells and effects during a synchronized display.
