Would the Houston Rockets consider a reunion with former point guard Kyle Lowry this off season? It would appear so as the Rockets are reportedly in hot pursuit of the point guard.
Both ESPN and Yahoo Sports have just revealed that Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey and Head Coach Kevin McHale have traveled to Lowry's home town of Philadelphia to discuss the possibility of the point guard joining forces with James Harden and Dwight Howard in Houston.
Lowry is a bulldog in the point guard position and his combination of strength and tenacity along with his excellent shooting and defense could prove vital to Houston's quest for a championship in the tough Western Conference. He is also a proven leader as the Raptors would readily testify firsthand when Lowry led the team back to the playoffs after a long drought.
But the big question is would Lowry consider playing for Houston the second time around?
When he was traded to Toronto two seasons ago, many thought that he wouldn't be wearing a Rockets jersey for good. He was in an all out war with Kevin Mchale--yes, the same Kevin Mchale who traveled to Kyle Lowry's home town Philadelphia--which led to his demotion to the bench and wanted out in the team before finally being shipped out to Toronto.
But time heals all wounds as it would appear that things between Mchale and Lowry are a lot better this time around. This is what the Raptors point guard admitted earlier this season about their relationship.
"I would have done things differently in Houston," Lowry says. "I really respected Kevin McHale. I wish I would have had an opportunity to play for him longer. The things he was teaching me, well, I didn't understand right away. When you get away from someone, though, see it from the outside looking in, you go back and think, 'Damn, I could've learned some more things from the guy."
Lowry has expressed in the past that winning a title is more important that money for him at this point in his career. The Rockets don't have plenty of salary cap space but they certainly have the roster that would help Lowry compete for championships for many years to come.
Whether a reunion will take place in Houston remains to be seen as we march forward in the thrilling 2014 NBA free agency.
