Carmelo Anthony has already made it known that he will opt out in the final year of his contract with the Knicks to test the free agency waters. He also has plenty of suitors namely the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, L.A Lakers, and Dallas Mavericks who will try to convince the perennial all-star forward that they are the best destination for him. Among these suitors, the Bulls are rumored to be on top of Carmelo Anthony's list and are widely considered as the favorite to win the Melo-sweepstakes.
The Bulls will also be the first team to make make their pitch to the Knicks star as sources with knowledge to Melo's plans have reported that he is planning to meet with the team on the opening day of the 2014 NBA free Agency which is scheduled to start this Tuesday, July 1, at 12:01 a.m.
The Bulls are confident that they can lure Melo to the Windy City to team up with their own pair of stars in Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah. They will also make Anthony the epicenter of their offense in a Bulls team that is famed for their tough defense and intense competitive spirit.
But of course Melo will also entertain the three other suitors who are also in his list of possible destinations namely the Rockets, Mavs, and Lakers. Sources reported to ESPN.com that Melo intends to travel to Texas the day after he visits Chicago with meetings both to the Rockets and the Mavs. The report also indicated that Anthony will likely meet with Rockets first in the Morning then the Mavs in the afternoon.
Anthony, who has a vacation home in Los Angeles, will also meet with the Lakers face-to-face next week. The team has been eying Melo for quite some time after he made the decision to become a free agent this summer. They are looking to lure Melo and another potential star most likley LeBron James or Kevin Love if they manage to clear enough salary cap space by dumping Steve Nash's contract and trade their 7th pick Julieus Randle.
