2014 NBA Free agency rumors: Suns to Pursue James and Anthony pairing

By

Last season, we saw the explosive duo of guards Goran Dragic and Eric Bledsoe carry the young Suns team to an impressive 48-34 record to the surprise of many analysts - many NBA pundits were predicting a 20 win season for the Suns. They even almost reached the playoffs in a very tough Western Conference - an 8th seed record in the west can reach as high as the 3rd seed in the east - but fell short of clinching the 8th spot from the Dallas Mavericks in the slimmest of margins.

This summer, the Suns will look to surprise the NBA world once again as sources reveal that they are looking to add another elite duo, perhaps the best pairing that the NBA will see, in LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony.

The Pheonix Suns are a team with plenty of cap room - $33.5 million to be exact - and can have $10 million more by renouncing the rights of unrestricted free agent shooting big man Channing Frye ($9.6 million cap hold) and trade Alex Len's rookie contract or expiring contracts of developing talent Marcus Morris and high-flying swingman Gerald Green.

On top of that, they can clear cap space to make room for Melo and James without trading or renouncing the rights of their own dynamic duo in Eric Bledsoe and Goran Dragic. Not to mention that the Suns are loaded with plenty of draft picks with their three first-round drafts picks in 2015 that they can use to bring in solid veterans via sign-and-trade-deal.

Clearly, the Suns are in position to make a run at a LeBron, Melo pairing or become seriously loaded roster wise this offseason if they fail to acquire any or both of the super stars.

Now while other candidates who are in pursuit of the two superstars like Miami, New York, Chicago, and Houston, are still banging their heads in thinking of possible scenarios to clear salary cap space to pursue or retain just one of the the star forwards, the Suns already have the cap room and the trade chips in their draft picks that will allow them to sign both both Anthony and James to long term deals and build an instant dynasty in the WIld Wild West.

But although the Suns are in position to pursue both stars, its still up to LeBron and Melo whether or not they will want to team up and play with Dragic and Bledsoe. Melo for one, has not made it known, for the moment at least, that he will be meeting with the Suns but has made arrangements in one-on-one meetings with the Bulls, Rockets, and Mavs. LeBron on the otherhand, hasn't made any commitments with any team so far after he opted out with the Heat.

But who wouldn't want to play with an exciting Suns team and become the leader of a young talented squad who is on the rise and could just be one super star away from contending?
