2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors: Last chance for Warriors to pull the trigger on Kevin Love?

By

Although trade talks between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors for Kevin Love didn't bear any results on draft night due to the Warriors reluctance to include Klay Thompson as part of the trade deal and the Wolves insistence that he should be, the two teams continue to to discuss the scenario, sources with inside knowledge of the situation reveal.

Neither team, however, has shown any sign whatsoever that they would yield on the Thompson issue. The Wolves are unwavering in their resolve to include the sharp shooting guard in the deal but the Warriors hot pursuit has been put to a halt by what has been described by sources as an "organizational split" on the decision to part ways with Thompson.

The Warriors, however, need to make their decision quick--on whether or not they will go all in on Love and part ways with Thompson--because while they are contemplating if the trade scenario will indeed benefit them or not, other teams are already moving in on the all-star power forward.

Time, is therefore, of the essence here. As what Zach Harper of CBS Sports suggests, if Golden does not strike soon, another team will.

"The Warriors not wanting to give up Thompson and a first round pick in addition to taking on the next three years of Martin's contract aren't a surprise," Harper writes, "But with the Celtics, Bulls, Suns, Nuggets, and other teams having interest in acquiring Love, they may not have a choice."

If teams like the Denver Nuggets, Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Phoenix Suns and Chicago Bulls, among others, are willing to engage in a trade deal that will be acceptable to Minnesota, the Warriors do not have a second to delay. A decision has to made sooner than later.

After the deal went south on draft night, the Golden State Warriors have probably their last chance to pull the trigger on Love. Chicago, Phoenix, and Boston all have plenty of first-rounders that may entice Minnesota. Denver also has the No. 11 pick to dangle. The Warriors, meanwhile, only have Thompson that interest the Timberwolves.

The Warriors should keep in mind that the Timberwolves are not limited by a single market alone. If Golden State continues to stand their ground on the Thompson issue, its onto the next one for Minnesota.
