Recent rumors for the upcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" described the film as being absolutely crammed with superhero characters.
First, a report from Latino Review claimed to have an inside report on four new villains that would be joining the cast of the 2016 film. According to their reports, the new villains were:
- Victor Zsazs, a serial killer who carves a mark on his skin for each new victim he murders.
- Morgan Edge, a public relations exec for Lex Luthor's company, Lexcorp, and a former gangster.
- David Cain, an aging assassin who works for Lex Luthor.
- Amanda Waller, a powerful U.S. Senator who is very much against the idea of Superman.
All four characters have a storied history with DC Comics, and ties to both Batman and Superman.
Then, posting an addendum to the Latino Review report came a story Badass Digest, which claimed to have seen the same alleged screenplay that Latino Review did, and revealed that the script also contained a number of DC heroes.
Some of the names mentioned:
- Kyle Rayner, a character that took up the mantle of Green Lantern in 1994.
- Jason Todd, a former Robin who later became the antihero known as Red Hood.
- Carrie Kelly, who became Robin in "The Dark Knight Returns," the Batman graphic novel that director Zack Snyder is basing much of "Batman v Superman" on.
- Thanagar, a fictional planet home to the heroes Hawkman and Hawkwoman.
The Badass Digest report also mentioned that the rumored screenplay was rife with errors, and contained far more nods to comic book fans than "Man of Steel," which might point to it being less than legitimate.
Now, Movieweb has a new report claiming that the script is, in fact, false. The site asserts that Warner Bros had commissioned a false screenplay early this year, and had summarily allowed it to leak online. The vast majority of the rumored details heard so far about "Batman v Superman," claims Movieweb, are false and have been learned from this fake screenplay.
Movieweb dropped another major bombshell in the piece- not only was the script a fake, but it was allegedly written by Kevin Smith, and not David S. Goyer or Chris Terrio (the two screenwriters who have worked on "Batman v Superman" so far).
Movieweb's source is a member of the WB staff who claims to have leaked the script on WB's orders, along with several other staff members posing as disgruntled ex-employees.
It's about as outlandish as any "Batman v Superman" story rumor. Eventually, once the film is released, WB will probably state conclusively whether this is true, or all just another layer of hoax.
