NBA Free Agency: Top Bargain Buys in the Point Guard Position

By

The 2014 NBA free agency is not all about LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and other big free agent names. This summer's free agency market is teeming with players that could prove vital supporting parts and bench warmers and anything in between for any team looking to improve their fortunes next season.

More importantly, this off-season opens up quality players in the point guard position who would come at a low price. Here are the top point guards who could fit the bill in some such capacity at a bargain price. They can be vital pieces to contenders who have limited resources but are one key supporting point guard away from reaching the top.

Shelvin Mack, Atlanta Hawks (Restricted) - Mack showed in Atalanta that he can be a solid rotation player and back up point guard for a playoff team. With the Hawks, he torched the opposing teams second-unit defenses and proved that he can mesh well with other ball handlers like Jeff Teague.

Beno Udrih, Memphis Grizzlies (Unrestricted): An excellent shooter who can light it out from the outside (41.9 percent from mid-range, 45.2 percent from three). He can be a valuable piece to a contender who is looking for a steady, veteran point guard who can shoot the three ball with consistency.

Jameer Nelson, Orlando Magic (Unrestricted): Has high basketball I.Q and can deliver when his team needs him too. He is a quality backup option in the point guard position and can be a valuable asset to playoff teams. Jameer is also an explosive point guard and what he lacks in height (he's listed generously at 6-0) he makes up for his strength and feisty defense.

Jordan Farmar, Los Angeles Lakers (Unrestricted): Anyone looking for a high-caliber reserve guard that comes at a bargain price should look into Farmar. He averaged 16.4 points (with 43.8 percent shooting from three) and 7.9 assists per 36 minutes with Mike D'Antonie and the Lakers last season.
