The television series "Breaking Amish" follows a group of young teens raised in the Amish tradition, who are sent into the outside world (New York City, to be precise), in order to experience what life is like outside the secluded world of the Amish.
It seems the show has had an effect on one of its young cast members. The series, which was spun off into "Return to Amish," which follows the same cast members as they return back into the Amish lifestyle, boasts a startling new development from Sabrina High.
Last week, on her Facebook page, High posted this message:
"In honor of pride week, I decided I wanna be honest with everyone and let y'all know that no, I don't have a boyfriend anymore, but I have been casually seeing various beautiful women True love is a gift from God Himself Judge me all you want, but you will not ruin my happiness... I've learned to look at people as souls instead of whether they are male or female. And as always, Oakley is my #1 priority, and I will teach her to love everyone regardless of who they are or where they come from. God is love ♡"
The Amish tradition, and specifically the Mennonite Church, do not approve of homsexuality in any way, which may strain things further between High and her strict conservative family. Things were already tense between them, given that High recently had a child out of wedlock.
It is not yet clear how High's family has reacted to the news.
High is also not the first "Breaking Amish" cast member to experiment with her sexuality. Last year, Kate Stoltzfus was reported to be dating women, and was ultimately met with acceptance from her fellow "Breaking Amish" cast members.
Hopefully, the same will follow for Sabrina High.
"Return to Amish" airs on TLC.
