Rather than continuing the story of the previous Power Ranger movies, the new film is a reboot of Saban's original concept for a new generation. A press release from the Power Rangers website states that the movie will "re-envision the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of high school kids who are infused with unique and cool super powers but must harness and use those powers as a team if they have any hope of saving the world."

After the announcement of the new Power Rangers movie, talks on who will reprise the role of Red Ranger started to surface. Recent reports link A-list actors such as Liam Hemsworth and Taylor Lautner to star in the film.

The film studio, however, has not revealed the official cast for the reboot movie.

Fans from all over the world are expecting to see their childhood heroes Jason, Kimberly, Billy, Trini, and Zack as Red, Pink, Blue, Yellow, and Black Rangers respectively.

It is also reported that a screenwriter is already working on the script with Lionsgate. Website SchmoesKnow writes that the studio bosses have asked Max "Chronicle" writer Landis to write the script, according to an insider. Reports say Landis has already passed a draft to the original Power Rangers creator Haim Saban, as well as to producers Alison Sheamur and Jim Miller.

Meanwhile, fans seem to be disappointed with the choice of screenwriter for the movie reboot. They claim that Landis is not a good choice for the project as he is a critic to the geek cinema.

First launched in 1993, Power Rangers is inspired by the Japanese series Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger. Producer Haim Saban infused martial arts and mecha-versus-monster theme, creating a successful franchise targeting 8-12-year-old American children.

The current series, "Power Ranger Super Megaforce," is the franchise's 20th anniversary offering.
