Nickelodeon has finally made it official: "Sam and Cat," a hit show featuring Ariana Grande and Jennette McCurdy, has been cancelled.
According to a statement issued by the network, "Nickelodeon will not be producing more episodes of 'Sam & Cat'. We are very proud of the show and its very talented cast and we wish them all the best."
The show, a spinoff of two Nick hit shows "iCarly" and "Victorious," was aired only for one season.
Rumors of cancellation started after a number of scandals involving the stars surfaced: there were some leaked racy photos of McCurdy, some alleged salary issues, and gossip that the two are no longer friends.
The show mysteriously stopped airing in April. The network did not explain why, but the break happened shortly after McCurdy's sexy photos were leaked online.
McCurdy skipped the Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards last March. Rumors say that her absence is because of the alleged financial issues. She used Twitter to give a vague explanation: "I was put in an uncomfortable, compromising, unfair situation (many of you have guessed what it is) and I had to look out for me. I chose to not go because sticking up for what is right and what is fair is what my mom taught me is ALWAYS the most important thing."
In a statement issued on July 13, after the show was officially cancelled, Grande wrote a letter to fans, saying:
"So the news is out about Sam & Cat. I felt it wasn't my place to make any sort of announcement so I kept quiet until now. I want to thank Nickelodeon for making a childhood dream of mine come true, for being a family to me, for being so accommodating and supportive of my multitasking with my music career, and for of course introducing me to many of my fans however many years ago."

McCurdy has not yet released a statement.
"Sam and Cat" will air its final episode entitled "#GettinWiggy," on July 17.
