The Five Biggest Issues With the Playstation 4, and How to Avoid Them

By

The Playstation 4 may not have had a launch as infamous as Microsoft's Xbox 360 (where Xbox owners worldwide were plagued with the red ring of death), but that doesn't mean Sony's console is entirely without issues.

A piece by Fixya details the five biggest issues currently plaguing the latest Playstation console, and how to handle them. The issues are, in order of severity:

  • Console Turning Off
  • No Audio/Video
  • Freezing
  • Disc Drive
  • Resolution

Fixya also details just how to take care of these problems - a console turning off may be caused by overheating or a faulty HDMI cable. As well, something as simple as resetting the console (the old standby for computer repair) may be enough to fix a spastic PS4.

Audio and video issues are primarily due to the HDMI cable- which sends both HD audio and video data from the console to the PC, although a software update can often help in this regard.

Freezing is caused by the same likely candidates as the first two- overheating or faulty software (and again, a quick turn on/turn off might be the solution to a freezing problem).

The site does not explain how to manage disc drive issues, nor anything listed under "other" (that may have been a lengthy list).

However, recent PS4 issues aren't just limited to the console itself. Today marks the beginning of a beta test for "Destiny," an upcoming AAA title from developer Bungie. But in advance of the beta test, the Playstation Network has gone down, barring many players from trying out "Destiny" for the first time.

Sony cites an overabundance of Destiny players on the servers as the cause for the network crash.

A new report from Business Insider also claims the biggest problem with Sony's console is its resolution. Whether a lower resolution or a frozen console is a bigger issue, we leave up to you.
