"Halo: The Master Chief Collection," a compilation of remastered versions of the first four "Halo" games, is due out this year, and fans have been wondering whether there are any hints to the upcoming "Halo 5: Guardians" hidden in the upcoming game.
Well, after the questions of one particularly vocal fan, we know one new piece of information- "Halo 5: Guardians" will not be based in the same engine as "The Master Chief Collection," and will have a brand-new engine all on its own.
On the forum NeoGAF, one such fan asked Frank O'Connor, franchise director for "Halo's" 343 Industries, whether the two games would be sharing the same game engine. O'Connor gave the following response:
"Not technically. It's a blend of legacy and some proprietary code. H5 is on a different schedule and couldn't be branched for this."
Back in May, 343 Industries confirmed that "Guardians" would be releasing some time in fall 2015, announcing that:"Halo 5: Guardians is a bigger effort than "Halo 4." That applies to the content and scope of the game, as well as the technology in what's now a brand new and more powerful engine. Certainly there are some core elements carried over from prior games, but we've invested a huge effort in retooling our tech to take full advantage of the Xbox One's hardware and ecosystem to create worlds and experiences worthy of next-gen."
Now, we know that the engine in question is not the same one as in "The Master Chief Collection."
"The Master Chief Collection" will also come with access to the beta for "Halo 5: Guardians," which is sure to drive sales even higher than they would normally be, as the "Halo" series is usually one to set records for video game sales.
"Halo: The Master Chief Collection" releases on November 11.
