'True Detective' Season 2 Spoilers: New cast may include Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch; new season of 'hard women, bad men' to have multiple directors

By

HBO's hit mystery crime drama series "True Detective" is already gearing up for its second season.

The network has been keeping mum on what's in store, but there have been a lot of hints and rumors circulating online. Here are some of the things that we know about season 2 so far.

Rolling Stone reported that show creator/showrunner Nic Pizzolatto is already halfway through the second season's script. He is expected to pen all of the episodes in season 2, which will reportedly have different directors (one of them being William Friedkin, who directed hit 1970s movies "The French Connection" and "The Exorcist").

Last season was led by two actors--Woody Harrelson (Marty Hart) and Matthew McConaughey (Rust Cohle). In season two, it's expected that we're going to see four central roles. The new cast has not yet been revealed, but rumors are circulating that Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch ("Battleship") could be two of the main actors.

The casting decision will reportedly be announced later this week.

It is believed that Matthew McConaughey will not be back for season 2, at the show intends to be an anthology with a new story every season. The Wrap reported that during the January Television Critics Association panel, McConaughey said: "It was a 450-page film, is what it was. It was also finite. It didn't mean we had to come back this year, next year if we were under contract. It was finite. So in that way it was exactly a 450-page film script.

Pizzolatto said in an interview with HitFix that the upcoming season will be about "hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system." Reports say that it will be set in a fictional city in southern California.

Season 2 is expected to have eight episodes. HBO is yet to reveal the exact release date.
