When last we heard of "Thor 3," Marvel head honch Kevin Feige was talking in vague terms about the sequel, and about where the characters might end up (Odin, for example, might not be as dead as previously thought).
Now, we've got an update on the third film in the "Thor" series, and it's a little more concrete than the talk we heard last time. Collider recently spoke with Feige about the upcoming "Guardians of the Galaxy," but they managed to sneak in a few questions about other films as well. When asked about the state of the next "Thor" and "Captain America" films, Feige had this to say.
"Both in development, both in the works. ["Captain America 3"] has already been announced, so that's up first. That's in a further stage. "Thor" is being outlined right now, so both in the works."
It can be expected, then that "Thor 3" is one of the many films Marvel has slated for release between 2016 and 2019. It's probably one of the sooner ones, given that Feige is at least willing to talk "Thor 3," and isn't willing to talk whatever else is in store.
The other big news in the world of "Thor" involves the character's comic book incarnation. Marvel has just announced that the norse god of thunder is now a woman in the Marvel canon. The news was first announced on "The View," and then clarified in a statement from the comic book company.
""This is not She-Thor," Marvel said in the statement. "This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it's unlike any Thor we've ever seen before."
Like Anthony Mackie potentially tackling "Captain America 3," this news could have enormous changes to the "Thor" franchise. Once Chris Hemsworth is gone, we might just see a female actress stepping up to wield the hammer in future "Thor" and "The Avengers" films.
Don't expect to hear more about this until Hemsworth's contract is close to expiring, though.
