With Comic-Con underway, the biggest news around is all Marvel, all the time. But some news doesn't need a massive comic book convention to make headlines.
Take "Thor 3," the future threequel in Marvel's popular "Thor" franchise. While little is known about the film's story, a new rumor has just eked online, right before Marvel's upcoming panel at Comic-Con. According to the rumor, one of the major comic storylines being discussed as the plot to "Thor 3" is "Ragnarok," which finds Thor and Loki becoming uneasy allies once more to fight the massive, demonic Surtur.
Now, Marvel may hesitate to tackle this storyline, if only because Thor and Loki formed a tenuous alliance in their last film, "Thor: The Dark World." It's doubtful that Marvel would try and emulate the same formula in another sequel- more likely, they'd try something new (say, adding in The Enchantress or Beta Ray Bill).
However, the one big issue with "Ragnarok" is that, at the end of the comic, the character of Loki is killed. That would mean huge repercussions in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; as well, the studio may not want to get rid of Tom Hiddleston when his status with the fans is so overwhelmingly popular.
Presumably, we'll find out more at Comic-Con.
While "Thor 3" has no set release date, it's bound to be tied to one of the many dates Marvel has just added to their schedule, with multiple films a year starting from this summer through 2019. As well, Marvel recently announced that the comic book incarnation of "Thor" would become a woman. However, it has not been annonuced if the new female Thor would appear in later "Thor" films, or have any bearing on the film franchise whatsoever.
What do you think? Would you want to see Loki killed off, or last through another dozen films? Let us know in the comments below, or share your thoughts on Twitter and Facebook.
