The 2014 NBA free agency was as entertaining and drama-filled as expected. Cleveland Cavaliers' prodigal son, LeBron James, has finally come homeafter spending four seasons and two championship runs with the Miami Heat. Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks has made a few changes in their lineup, most notably their shipping out of Jose Calderon. As such, the two teams are said to be the biggest winners in this year's free agency, CBS Sports reported.
Its hard to argue why the Cavaliers are not the big winners in the free agency following the return of James. Considered to be the biggest prize in this summer's free agency bonanza, James' addition to the Cavaliers roster will surely change the team's fortune from season lottery winners into instant championship contenders. LeBron's influence in attracting stars and key veterans - the team has already acquired Mike Miller and James Jones due to LeBron's magnetic effect - will also help the team's title aspirations for the years to come. They also didn't let the old bitter feelings of the past from ruining their chances of reacquiring LeBron. Owner Dan Gilbert even pulled out that offensive letter to LeBron on the team's website, of which its contents was later published by ESPN, when he left the team four summers ago.
The Dallas Mavericks, meanwhile, is the other team that can equally call themselves as winners this summer in the fee agency period, the Bleacher Report said. Though they failed to land huge free agent like Carmelo Anthony, they were able to successfully add key players Tyson Chandler, Chandler Parsons, and Jameer Nelson that would help them contend for an NBA title in the twilight of Dirk Nowitzki's career. Moreover, they reportedly kept their solid defensive point guard Devin Harris said goodbye to Calderon, while signing Richard Jefferson, who is coming of a surprisingly decent year with the Utah Jazz, and Al-Farouq Aminu to league minimums.
On the other hand, the Mavericks had a bit of a setback when they lost key veterans in Vince Carter and Shawn Marion. Nonetheless, this was viewed as a good thing, as the team have become younger and more talented in every position while still being able to maintain balance and depth to help them in their quest in adding another NBA tile in Big-D.
