While Kevin Love has undoubtedly taken center stage in recent NBA rumors, another Western Conference Star has also been talked about by a lot of people on his decision regarding his future team. The Oklahoma City Thunder star forward and last season's NBA MVP is already being inquired on his potential free agency in 2016 with teams like the Washington Wizards, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets all reportedly on the run to steal Durant away from Oklahoma City as per bleacherreport.com.
Yahoo Sports was able to reach Durant during a break at the USA Basketball Camp in Las Vegas and inquired him on the possibility of returning to his home town of Washington and play for the Wizards like what LeBorn James did with when he signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Here is what the All-Star small forward had to say:
"It's being talked about. Everybody is asking me about it every time I go on Instagram or Twitter. All my friends ask me about it. I'm not going to sit here and act like I'm naïve to the fact that people think about that stuff. I tell everybody, 'Look, I'm here in Oklahoma City. I love it here. Who knows what will happen?' I will never close the door on anything, but I like where I'm at right now."
But Durant's decision to stay whith the Thunder may rest on whether or not he will be able to win a championship together with his All-Star teammate Russel Westbrook in the remaining years of his contract. Chuck Rymor of Hoopsrumors.com has mentioned in his report that it would "definately be though" for Durant to leave if the Thunder were to successfully win back-to-back championships in the remaining 2 years of his contract before he becomes a free agent in 2016.
Durant is a native of D.C and played basketball in High School in nearby Maryland and Virginia. It has been a part of his summer schedule to come home and play in the Pro-Am Goodman League. He also just attended on a family reunion in the place where he grew up for a while day this month.
Right now, Kevin Durant may be content in his situation with the Oklahoma City Thunder but in 2016 we can surely expect the Washington Wizards to make a push on the perennial NBA scoring champion come 2016. And by that time when Durant has yet to win a title with the Thunder, he may consider coming home to Washington and play with John Wall and Bradley Beal for the Wizards.
