'Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers' Cast Update: Taylor Lautner over Liam Hemsworth? Former Red Ranger Austin St. John May return as a villain

By

Among the names of the actors that has been linked to the reboot of the 1995 film "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers" was "Hunger Games" star Liam Hemsworth. He was initially favored to lead the superhero franchise, given his experience with action scenes in "The Hunger Games" and "The Expendables" films. However, the Aussie star is said to mostly likely turn down an offer considering his current box office success.

"He could be interested in doing a Power Rangers movie, but unless he knows big bucks are going to come out of it, Hemsworth doesn't seem like a solid leading man just yet," Enstarz wrote.

Then there's Taylor Lautner, the actor who made a name for himself thanks to the "Twilight" franchise, where he played an affectionately ferocious werewolf. His name was among those who surfaced because of his connection to Lionsgate. However, Lautner, who may have charmed British fans in the BBC Three comedy series "Cuckoo," has not done much in film except for his recent most notable role in 'Grown Ups.' He too, like Hemsworth, is tied to a franchise and making it outside of "Twilight" seems difficult, Enstarz said. We can refer to Lautner's action flop "Abduction," for example.

On the other hand, another name who is making a noise on the Internet among Power Ranger fans is Austin St. John. St. John is the original Red Ranger and the first leader of the Power Rangers since 1993. His comeback is very probable considering his previous affiliation to the franchise.

Recently, St. John posted questions on his Facebook page to ask his fans on how they want to see him in the "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers" reboot. The post was accompanied by a Red Ranger action figure sitting on a replica of the infamous Iron Throne of Westeros. His caption read, "IIIIIFFFFFF?????? IF I was to return to Power Rangers in ANY capacity....????? IF???? What would you choose for me? Suit up, Mentor, Cameo, Leader, Sixth Ranger, Evil Jason?????? What would you choose? Who would the enemy be??? Who would be involved in the final epic battle of the series or movie???!!! Tell me and those that ARE WATCHING"

Film producer Robert Orci also discussed about the possibility of the original actors as part of the upcoming film. While attempting to debunk the notion that the upcoming film is a reboot, he told IGN, "That's something we want to rely on the Saban group to tell us. They have a lot of internal knowledge of their franchise and we're just learning now. We've seen it only as fans, but they actually know it inside and out, so I'd love to know what fans want to see."
