Rumors suggests that fans of highly anticipated X-Men movie, "Apocalypse," could expect some characters, including Magneto, changing sides as the group faces a new powerful enemy. As Enstars reported, this might as well be the case if the sequel remains loyal to the comics from which the movie is based.
Michael Fassbender, who will be reprising his role as Magneto for the third time, hinted that the character could be switching to the heroes' group. The actor spoke with IGN that he had a conversation with Simon Kinberg regarding a possible twist in Magneto's story.
"I've had these conversations with Simon and there's a certain strand of his story that I think is pretty interesting and would like to explore, if we could, " the actor told IGN.
The "Apocalypse" storyline in the comics features Magneto switching to the heroes' side to help them fight a super villain. The story also showed Magneto who was deeply affected after Legion comes to kill his friend, Professor Xavier. With the X-Men left hopeless, Magneto becomes the leader while Apocalypse is growing powerful.
He gathers mutants and forms an army, including his children, Scarlet Witch, Pietro, Wanda, and Quicksilver. Gambit, Rogue, and Bishop also show up.
Meanwhile, it is rumored that Rogue (Anna Paquin) could be appearing with a larger role in the new timeline of X-Men. Reports claim that she had a larger part in "Days of Future Past" but cuts made her appear very shortly in the film.
Another character that is constantly associated with "X-Men: Apocalypse" is Gambit. This is because there are rumors going around that "22 Jump Street" and "GI Joe: Retaliation" star Channing Tatum is slated to play the role. However, Marvel has not yet made any confirmation about it.
Other superstar actors, as reports confirm, are also set to reprise their role in the franchise. Australian actor Hugh Jackman will be playing Wolverine for the fifth time, while "Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence will be playing Mystique for the third time.
Other than Fassbender, Jackman, and Lawrence, the powerhouse cast also includes James McAvoy to play Professor X, Nicholas Hoult who will be returning as Beast for the third time, and Even Peters to play Quicksilver.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" will hit the theaters on May 27, 2016.
