August 17th marked a new update for the Xbox One system, adding a whole host of new features to the Microsoft system.
Major Nelson has the details for this new update, and those features include:
Mobile purchases, which will allow Xbox One users to use Xbox SmartGlass or Xbox.com to purchase games and content right to their living rooms.
Activity feed updates, which will add greater communication between Xbox users and their friends- now players can post videos and comment on each other's Xbox Feed, essentially turning Xbox One into a Microsoft version of Facebook.
Low battery notification for the Xbox One controllers.
The ability to turn off notifications while watching videos.
The ability to play 3D Blu-rays as well as standard Blu-Rays.
A 'Last Time Seen" function on the Xbox Friends list, which will tell users how long it's been since a friend was online.
This isn't all positives, though - according to Extreme Tech, the introduction of 3D on the Xbox One may lead to a lot of technology issues, as 3D technology hasn't been implemented particulary well in game consoles. According to their reports, the update is better served watching 3D Blu-Rays than playing games with the 3D element, because few game companies tend to push 3D gameplay.
However, other sites, like IGN, are more enthusiastic about the update, and don't denigrate the idea of a 3D component.
Check back soon for future updates on the Xbox One, as MIcrosoft continues to update the system. According to Major Nelson, they're coming quite soon- the report ends with the following goodbye:
"Stay tuned for even more new features headed your way in the coming weeks including more social features and a few new updates for watching TV."
We may be getting another update far sooner than previously thought.
