AMC's "Breaking Bad" and ABC's "Modern Family" stole the spotlights as they were declared as big winners of the 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards. The American crime drama series which has been both a mainstream and a cult favorite in its five-year prominence since 2008, received the most awards in the drama category including six of the seven major awards during the Emmys, which was held on Monday.

The production once again received accolades for their work from the award-giving body, according to NY Times, as they bagged the "Outstanding Drama Series." The show defeated cult favorites and both popular hit shows "Game of Thrones" and "True Detective" of HBO. Bryan Cranston, who portrayed as the series' main character Walter White, received his fourth consecutive "Outstanding Lead Actor in Drama Series" title. Cranston played as a high school chemistry teacher who pushed his morals aside upon discovering that he had inoperable lung cancer and sold crystal meth instead to secure his family's future.

AMC's hit series, which was set in Albuquerque, Mexico, won other major awards including "Outstanding Supporting Actor" and "Outstanding Supporting Actress" for Aaron Paul (Jesse Pinkman) and Anna Gunn (as Skyler White) respectively. Writer Moira Walley-Beckett received an award for "Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series" for the series' episode "Ozymandias". Beckett defeated the show's own creator and executive producer Vince Gilligan's entry of the episode "Felina", who also competed for the same title. Gilligan, who was also nominated for the outstanding director, lost to Cori Joji Fukunaga of HBO's "True Detective".

The show, which aired its final episode on September 29, 2013, has been touted as one of the greatest television series of all time. Guinness World Records this year, declared "Breaking Bad" as highest-rated show of all time, citing its Metacritic score of 99/100.

Meanwhile, CBC.ca reported that the ABC hit comedy-series "Modern Family" won its fifth consecutive title for "Outstanding Comedy Series," an award which was speculated to be won by Netflix's critically-acclaimed web series "Orange Is The New Black". Julia Louis-Drefus, who portrays as vice president Selina Meyer on HBO's "Veep," received the "Outstanding Lead Actress in Comedy Series" award for the third time. The award's counterpart for male actors, "Outstanding Lead Actor in Comedy Series," was given to Jim Parsons for his portrayal of Dr. Sheldon Cooper for CBS's "The Big Bang Theory".

Before the event concluded, a "In Memoriam" tribute was led by Billy Crystal for award-winning Robin Williams and for other Hollywood stars who have departed recently, TODAY.com reported.
