It's been confirmed for some time that Marc Webb, director of the "Amazing Spider-Man" films, has plans to use the villains Kraven the Hunter and Mysterio in future films. We've known this ever since the release of "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," when representations of those two villain popped up in the film's end credits.
One of which, the spear that represents Kraven, can be seen above.
This comes by way of Cinema Blend, who at the time claimed that Webb was uncertain about which villains he'd be using in the sequels.
But now we know a little extra. Thanks to ComicBook.com, we know that not only does Webb want Kraven the Hunter for a future "Sinister Six" movie, he also wants the character as the lead villain in "The Amazing Spider-Man 3."
Enstarz follows up on their report, and claims that Kraven may be introduced in "The Sinister Six" first, to give him a relationship with Spidey and set up his appearance in the next full-fledged "Amazing Spider-Man" sequel.
There's just one issue with this whole idea- Kraven is a much smaller scale villain than what we've seen before.
The first "Amazing Spider-Man" had the Lizard trying to take over all of New York City; the second film had a trio of villains with God-like powers all trying to overcome Spider-Man.
Kraven, by comparison, is just a man who loves to hunt, and wants to claim Spider-Man as his biggest trophy. Enstarz adds that Kraven has super-strength due to a serum he has ingested, but even then his motivations are far smaller than the usual Spidey villain.
It might be a good thing for the next "Amazing Spider-Man" to go a little smaller, but it could also make the film far less of a summer blockbuster. Which certainly isn't what Sony wants.
