Reputable media outlets such as Re/code and the Wall Street Journal have reported that Apple would be holding a media event on September 9th, Tuesday. Pundits have said that the event could be the very day when the company would be launching its highly-anticipated iPhone 6.
As rumors swirl all over the media on what to expect in the iPhone 5S follow-up, we attempt to sort which ones could hold true should the gadget be unveiled next week.
A phablet-like iPhone?
As Apple's biggest competitor, Samsung, debuted its Galaxy Note series, the Note edge and Note 4, many are expecting that the Cupertino, California-based company would be following the phablet route. Mirror UK said that based on the rumors and the alleged leaks, Apple might be debuting not one, but two variants of iPhone 6. One with a 4.7-inch screen, and the other at a 5.5-inch display.
iPhone as a virtual wallet?
Daniel Howley for Yahoo! Tech said that the iPhone 6 would be getting NFC, or near-field communication, that would allow owners to pay for items wirelessly. Citing multiple reports, it appears that the information could be true considering the companies Apple reportedly have signed with: American Express, Visa, and MasterCard. Forbes said that considering the fact that Apple is a bankable brand, the company is expecting that more companies would pick up, making its bet in wireless payment successful from the time iPhone 6 gets launched.
iPhone 6 hardware improvements
Two things that iPhone users have been complaining to Apple about are the unit's battery and camera. According to the people at Feld & Volk, iPhone 6 would be equipped with a 13MP camera courtesy of Sony, which protrudes slightly from the phone's rather streamline body. Moreover, Mirror UK said that the two models will have 1810 and 2915mAh batteries, which are vast improvements from iPhone 5S' existing 1560mAh battery.
Crack-free iPhone screen?
Rumors are leading to the possibility that Apple might consider producing a special sapphire-glass display edition, according to Feld & Volk. Sapphire glass, for the uninitiated, is Gorilla Glass' tougher cousin. Gizmodo said that as Apple has invested in a sapphire manufacturing facility, there is a possibility that a sapphire-glass screen iPhone would be the norm in the near future
