Gwyneth Paltrow is considering converting to Judaism, several sources have told Page Six. The actress plans to convert from Kabbalah, which also originated in Judaism. Sources say that her friend Michael Berg, co-director of the Kabbalah Centre, had influenced her in her decision to switch religious faiths.
Paltrow, who made an appearance in an episode on NBC's "Who Do You Think You Are?" in 2011, discovered that her family came from a long line of Eastern European rabbis.
Following the discovery, Paltrow reportedly wanted to raise her children, 10 year-old Apple and eight year-old Moses, in a Jewish upbringing. Her ex-husband Chris Martin is Christian, according to the Post. It is not clear whether their religious differences created conflict in the home.
On the other hand, it has been suggested that Gwyneth's religious beliefs might have contributed in her "unconscious uncoupling" with the Coldplay frontman, Daily Mail said. Gwyneth and Chris has officially separated in March this year, and media has used reasons ranging from the couple's beliefs in raising the children to their dietary habits as the factors that caused their marriage to fail.
It has been known that Gwyneth's later father Bruce was Jewish, while her mother, actress Blythe Danner, is a Christian. The actress has also revealed that she was raised as both Christian and Jewish, which she added "was such a nice way to grow up." Haaretz said that according to Jewish law, a Jew must be born of a Jewish mother or convert to the faith.
Paltrow's rep didn't respond to any requests for comment to Page Six.
Meanwhile, the couple appears to be doing well despite the split. E! Online said the couple has recently been spotted with their kids during Labor Day weekend in the Hamptons. Although the former couple lived in separate houses, with the kids at Gwyneth's, the outing was a reminder of their former lives as a happily married couple.
