It's been a long time since the James Bond franchise had a villain that was truly memorable. Javier Bardem did a solid job in "Skyfall," but can you really remember that much about his character, two years later? Can you even remember his name?
For those who can't, we'll save you a Google search: Raoul Silva.
Well, for the upcoming "James Bond 24" (which will serve as a codename until the actual title is revealed), director Sam Mendes is looking for a villain to be truly memorable.
On James Bond Radio, a cast listing was revealed that shows just what Mendes wants in his next Bond villain- and it's definitely not the usual fare.
"Hinx (Male, 30 - 45)
Ideally over 6′ 2″. Hinx is the main henchman/assassin. We are looking for an imposing extremely physically fit actor. He has several fights with Bond and will have to have stunt training. He has to drive. We are looking for someone very unusual, possibly from a sports background.
Height: 180cm - 195cm"
While the casting call doesn't reveal just why Hinx is so weird (it keeps all that stuff vague- presumably because whoever wrote this knew it'd probably end up online at some point), it's still proof that we're getting another iconic Bond villain next time around.
According to Mi6-HQ, "James Bond 24" is looking for a character that can be as instantly recognizable as Jaws or Oddjob from the earlier Bond films. With a name like "Hinx," though, that might be a stretch.
We'll reserve our judgement until we can see footage of Hinx in action, but hopefully Mendes decides to change the name before the film's released.
As well, Hallels indicates that Penelope Cruz may be considered for the next Bond girl- the 007 news continues to pour in.
