Shulk joins 'Super Smash Bros' universe: How will 'Xenoblade Chronicles' hero fare in Nintendo crossover fighting game?

By

We're drawing ever closer to the release date of "Super Smash Bros" for the Nintendo 3DS (not the Wii U release, though- that one will have to wait a while).

And in the spirit of things, Nintendo continues to tease the new additions to the fourth "Super Smash Bros" roster. The latest: Shulk.

Shulk, unlike Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog or Pac-Man, is not even close to being a known household name. He's the hero of the game "Xenoblade Chronicles," a hero with the ability to wield the Monado, a mythical sword that gives its user unbelievable powers, as well as the ability to foresee the future.

Which is why Shulk's inclusion image says that he "Foresees a Fight!" Clever, right?

KpopStarz said Shulk is one of many, many new characters recently announced to be included the next "Smash Bros." Other newcomers include Lucina and Robin from the "Fire Emblem" series, Pacman, and Little Mac from "Punch-Out!" as well as an old favorite, Captain Falcon. Nintendo also released an image, which is seen on Shulk's official Smash Bros page, that shows the character without a shirt and in some very tight shorts.

Nintendo has recently come under fire for a similar depiction of the heroine, Samus. But given that Nintendo has given its male characters equal opportunity to be half-naked, it's hard to fault the company for being sexist.

As far as other characters go, The Examiner hints that the dog from "Duck Hunt" may also be a playable character, although it's not clear if this has been officially confirmed or not. If so, he'd be far from the series first retro addition- remember R.O.B. the robot and Mr. Game & Watch?

Check back soon for the latest from "Super Smash Bros.," as Nintendo keeps announcing new characters.
