The Golden State Warriors have signed free agent guard and summer league sensation Justin Holiday, the brother of New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday, on Monday according to a report by NBA.com:
The Golden State Warriors have signed free agent guard Justin Holiday, the team announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released. Holiday played for the Warriors at the 2014 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, starting all five games and averaging a team-high 14.8 points to go with 5.0 rebounds in 22.8 minutes.
The 25 year old Holiday played overseas last season for the Hungarian team Szolnok where he averaged 12.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 50 games and led the team to Hungary's champion cup, per Sports Illustrated. The 6'6" guard had an impressive outing for the Warriors in summer league earning him the unique opportunity to shine in the NBA.
Holiday is an athletic guard who has a knack for defense although he still needs to develop a consistent perimeter shot if he wants to stand out in the NBA. Eric He of bluemanhoop reports the difficult challenges that lie ahead in Holiday's career with the Warriors who are already stacked in the wing position:
It may be tough for him to make the final cut to the Warriors 15-man roster, simply because Golden State has a lot of depth on the wing. They already go three deep at the two-guard position with Klay Thompson, Brandon Rush, and Leandro Barbosa. They also added Aaron Craft, James Michael McAdoo, and Mitchell Watt to the roster for training camp, so needless to say, it will be an uphill climb for Holiday.
The odds are certainly againts Justin Holiday as he enter's training camp with the Golden State Warriors but with luck and determination he should be able to crack for a rotation spot in the upcoming 2014-15 season with a team vying for playoff supremacy in the tough Western Conference.
