'Longmire' Cancellation Updates: Fans took to social media as support for the crime drama; Are we seeing 'Longmire’s' fourth season in another network soon?

By

It has been a couple of weeks after it was announced that "Longmire" will not be renewed by A&E, but fans of the drama seems to be finding it hard to move on.

The fans of "Longmire" gathered online as a form of protest and to show that they are "not through with Longmire."

A part of the message released by the united fans to the Highlight Hollywood, reads, "The Longmire fan base united en masse to send the message loud and clear, that they are not through with Longmire!"

The message was from the heads of @longmireposse, the Long Live Longmire Twitter account which was the one behind the recent flood of support for the cancelled TV drama.

"So many were involved in the social media stampede last night, that many people had Twitter crash..." continued the message. The movement via social media was planned to take place on Monday night during Longmire's old timeslot on the network.

The "stampede" made waves online as it averaged 85,000 tweets per hour. The hashtag "Long Live Longmire" also went trending for a time.

In an article by Los Angeles Register, it was noted that it may not have mattered to A&E that Longmire was the network's top-rated scripted series, as well as the second in its entire collection of programming.

According to Nielsen cable television ratings for the week ending July 20, 2014, "Longmire" recently ranked 16th out of the Top 40 shows with a 2.2 rating.

The report by Los Angeles Register also mentioned that the network did not decide to renew the series because of issues on advertising.

The general audience of the crime drama was apparently older than what the advertisers wanted them to be. In addition, "Longmire" has A-list actors in its cast filming on location, making a more significant production cost compared to the network's reality shows.

Warner Horizon is still hopeful that "Longmire" will be given a next run in another network. The cast members are also hopeful that the fans will continue to send the message through social media and support series if it comes back for a fourth season.

If "Longmire" come back for Season 4 on a new home, it will likely premiere during the second half of 2015.
