There now seems to have little chances of "Longmire" being renewed for another season after it the ratings of its last season is tallied, Enstars reports. The A&E's show witnessed a dip in viewership during its previous season's finale.
The criminal drama's Season 3 finale had 3.6 millions, much less compared to the Season 2's 4.42 million. Although "Longmire" remains the network's most watched scripted series, the dip in viewership made the possibility of another season uncertain.
Despite the decrease in viewership, the show continued to tease fans through social media about a possible return. The cliffhanger finale also made the fans hopeful for the show's another run.
Meanwhile, some of the show's cast have encouraged their fans to show their support for the show directly to the network, Enstars reports.
Actor Lou Diamond Phillips took to Twitter to invite fans to give their support while revealing renewal timeline. "For those who asked, @AETV has until sometime in Sept. to decide on a pickup for #Longmire," reads Phillips' tweet. "Feeling pretty good about it but let 'em know!"
The actor's announcement of a September deadline brought some discouragement to the viewers. Fans initially thought the series had until October to be renewed. However, Phillips' tweet also brought positive response from fans who tweeted @AETV petitioning for "Longmire" to be given another run.
Twitter user @Goodmbata tweeted, "RENEW LONGMIRE! TV this good doesn't come along often!! Keep it going!"
"Another season of Longmire!!!" said @ClanWolfe.
Actress Kate Sackhoff previously suggested her confidence for the show's renewal. She took to Twitter saying, "Next season is going to be my favorite."
This was supported by author Craig Johnson who said he doesn't "worry" about Longmire's future. Johnson is the author of the books on which the series is based.
As reports suggest, should A&E renews the series for a fourth season, the show will likely return sometime in June 2015.
