Seven of The World’s Largest Diamonds to Date

The diamond industry is a thriving one. Not only is the diamond an expensive one but also the industry itself. Approximately $13 billion worth of diamonds are discovered yearly. Most of them weigh just a few carats. Some of these diamonds have become famous and carries amazing stories behind them.

Recently, two huge diamonds were discovered at the Karowe Mine in Botswana, Southern Africa. However, neither of them made it to the top diamonds in the world. Before It News has compiled a list of the Top 7 largest diamonds in the world as follows::

1. The Golden Jubilee

Weighing 545.67 carats, the Golden Jubilee diamond stands as the largest faceted diamond in the world at the moment. It was discovered in 1985 at South Africa's Premier Mine. Given as a gift to the King of Thailand in 1997 to mark the 50th anniversary of his coronation, its estimated cost is between $4 million to $12 million.

2. The Cullinan I - Star of Africa

Weighing 530.20 carats, The Cullinan I also goes by the name Star of Africa. It is the largest of nine stones cut from the 3106 carat Cullinan Diamond. Now housed in the Tower of London, its estimated worth is more than $400 million.

3. The Incomparable

At 407.48 carats, the Incomparable is considered as the largest brown diamond in the world weighing 890 carats before it was cut. It was discovered by a little girl going through a pile of rubble at the MIBA Diaomond Mine in Congo. The Incomparable is estimated at $20 million.

4. Cullinan II - Lesser Star of Africa

The second gem of the Cullinan Diamond family, Cullinan II or the Lesser Star of Africa has a weight of 317.4 carats and ranks fourth among the polished diamonds in the world. The original diamond was named after Sir Thomas Cullinan who opened the Premier Mine. The Cullinan II's estimated value is at $200 million.

5. The Spirit of de Grisogono

The world's largest cut black diamond and the fifth largest in the world, the Spirit de Grisogono weighs 312.24 carats. It originally weighed 587 carats and has 702 white diamonds totaling 36.69 carats in a white gold mounting.

6. The Centenary

The third largest diamond discovered in the Premier Mine, the Centenary weighs around 273.85 carats. The original stone weighed 599 carats when it was discovered in July of 1986. Although it's true value is unknown, the Centenary was insured for $100 million in 1991.

7. The Jubilee

Originally weighing 650.8 carats when it was discovered in 1895, the Jubilee now weighs just 245.35 carats. Known for its exceptional purity and size, it was presented to Queen Victoria to mark the 75th anniversary of her coronation. The estimated cost of these E-grade colorless diamond is unknown.
