Zoran Dragic has never played in the NBA but after a strong outing in the 2014 FIBA World Cup, the Slovenian guard has reportedly drawn serious interest from numerous teams in the NBA some of which are from contenders. According to Real GM, the Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks, and Orlando Magic have contacted Dragic this summer and have expressed interest in signing him this offseason. Unfortunately for them, Dragic is heading to Arizona as the Phoenix Suns are reportedly close on signing him per Rafael Molina Guerra of La Opinion de Malaga:
"Phoenix Suns and Zoran Dragic negotiate the signing of Unicaja player. Suns wants the two brothers in Arizona. Zoki must pay now 750.000€."
The negotiations with the Suns, though, are still ongoing since Zoran is still under contract with his current Spanish League team and a buyout of a little less than $1 million is needed to bring him to the NBA. The Suns are willing to absord the $600,000 from the buyout and Zoran's brother, Goran Dragic, is reportedly ready to pay the remainder of the balance.
While the Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings were a strong possibility for Zoran this offseason, the opportunity of playing alongside his brother in the NBA may have ultimately sealed his decision to sign with the Suns. The Goran and Zoran tandem worked pretty well at the FIBA tournament according to Randy Hill of Fox Sports Arizona and the brothers might just be intrigued at taking it to the next level in the NBA.
It's not unclear though how Zoran would fit in the Sun's crowded backcourt. Standing at 6'5" with an incredible motor just like his brother, he could very well play some shooting guard minutes in Coach Jeff Hornacek's run-and-gun type of offense. Zoran is known as a decent defender and an effective catch-and-shoot scorer but with with Eric Bledsoe, Gerald Green, Isaiah Thomas, and his brother Goran all playing in the guard position, it would certainly be a difficult task for him to find his niche in the team.
But still, the arrival of Zoran Dragic in Phoenix will surely be a welcome site for the entire Sun's nation. Signing Zoran would give the Suns a second brother combination with the Morris twins looking to make some noise heading into their fourth NBA season.
