CBS' police procedural drama "The Mentalist" will come to an end with its much awaited seventh season.
Actor Tim Kang, who plays agent Kimball Cho, announced the news on Sunday, telling fans the upcoming 13-episode season will be the show's last.
Kang took to Twitter to break the news. "This is our 7th and final season," he tweeted. "Looking at the scripts now, it's so fun and such a great season!"
The news broke in the wake of the police drama's eleventh hour renewal for a new season. "The Mentalist's" cast members and fans kept hoping for the renewal of the show until CBS granted it another run to wrap up the storyline with 13 episodes.
"All y'all are the best fans and friends we could have!!" reads another tweet by Kang. "I gotta say it makes doing what we do, that much more satisfying."
Moreover, the long-running series is reportedly ending on a fan-friendly note. In a previous article by Hollywood Reporter, series creator Bruno Heller described the upcoming season as "encore." Heller went on explaining the purpose of an encore, which is "to get people leaving the theater happy and giving them what they want and hitting your marks as strong as possible."
Meanwhile, cast member Simon Baker once again took the directorial role in "The Mentalist," Enstars reports. The Australian actor directed an episode entitled "The Silver Briefcase," marking his fifth time to work behind the camera.
Other episodes directed by Baker in the past seasons include "Red Moon," "Blinking Red Light," "Red Sails in the Sunset," and "My Blue Heaven."
According to spoilers, the seventh season will see the return of actress Morena Baccarin to reprise her role as Erica Flynn, a matchmaker who killed her husband. The character was last seen escaping from the jail and changing her name to Jane.
"The Mentalist" returns for its seventh and final season in January.
