"Hyrule Warriors" releases in barely over a week, but unfortunately for Nintendo, hype for the game isn't exactly at critical levels. KpopStarz reports that the game is being panned across multiple websites, which is a shame for all those fans of the "Zelda" series.
Here's what Digital Spy said about the game- like KpopStarz said, it's not what you'd call positive.
"... there's no getting away from the fact that the action in Hyrule Warriors is both shallow and repetitive."
"Visiting familiar Zelda locations and wiping out hundreds of enemies offers brief but satisfying bursts of mindless enjoyment, just don't expect to be engaged in the same way as a full series release."
It's a shame, because the game seemed like so much fun. Developed by Koei, the same company that puts out the "Dynasty Warriors" games, the game is essentially "Dynasty Warriors" in the "Zelda"-set kingdom of Hyrule. You can play as any number of "Zelda" characters, and fight enormous battles- the appeal of the "Dynasty Warriors" games is that you're fighting in the middle of a war; one soldier in a battlefield of thousands, all clashing at the same time.
Too bad the game's no good, right?
Christian Times also has a quote from Eiji Aonuma, producer and supervisor on the game.
"Looking at the comments on Miiverse regarding Hyrule Warriors, it's been great to see a lot of positive feedback. But one of the things that leaves me with rather complicated feelings is that people are saying, "Oh wow, I really love the cutscenes in this game! This is better than the stuff Nintendo does!" Of course, that leaves me a little conflicted, and gives me a mission now to make sure that the new Zelda game that I'm working on can hold its own in that aspect against Hyrule Warriors!"
According to Aonuma, then, the game must be pretty good. That's not what the reviewers are saying, so we'll just have to wait and see when the game releases next week.
