To be named among the Top 50 Best Global Green Brands, a company must show exemplary performance on the aspect of sustainability performance and perception. The overall scores are then determined by adding the standardized performance and perception scores. The final ranking is based on the overall scores of the companies compared to others as well as from the previous year's results.
Each brand undergoes an assessment of 1,250 consumers on the aspect of Authenticity, Relevance, Differentiation, Consistency, Presence, and Understanding of environmental claims. Deloitte Consulting LLP rates each brand using six pillars namely Governance, Operations, Transportation and Logistics, Stakeholder Engagement, and Supply Chain. 1. Ford

Ford soars to the top of the list from no. 2 the previous year. Its line of vehicles include five electric vehicles-two plug-in hybrids, another two hybrid, and an all electric vehicle. Aside from putting all its efforts in hydrogen and fuel cell research, Ford utilizes soybean-based foam cushions in its North American made vehicles, saving the company 5 million pounds of petroleum yearly.
2. Toyota

After topping the Best Global Green Brands list for the last three years, Japanese car maker Toyota ranks only 2nd this year. The company is considered as the pioneer and innovator of fuel efficient cars in the automobile industry. It has over 2 million hybrid vehicles in the United States, more than any other automotive manufacturer.
3. Honda

The third company from the automotive sector in the top 5 Best Global Green Brands, Honda retains its position from last year's list. The Japanese car manufacturer has been spearheading a variety of Corporate Citizenship and sustainable activities. In September of last year, it earned one of the highest disclosure scores among all global companies in the CDP Global 500 Climate Change report.
4. Nissan

Rounding out the list of automobile companies in the Top 5 positions is Nissan, moving up a notch higher from being 5th last year. The company is ranked 5th in the list of Japan's Best Global Brands and 65th in the Top 100 Best Global Brands.
5. Panasonic

The only non-automobile company in the Top 5 Best Global Green Brands, Panasonic is, however, the top brand in the electronics sector. With its gap score of +13.9, its performance score is higher than its perception score. This means that the company is working its way towards being a responsible brand but should try to communicate its efforts to consumers.
