HTC One M8 users report battery drain, Skype named as culplit; Does the HTC One M8 Windows counterpart have same issue?

By

HTC One M8 has been experiencing some problems after the Android 4.4 KitKat update including one that is allegedly caused by Skype. The problem should not be present in HTC One M8's new Windows version.

According to Air Herald, both HTC and AT&T have stopped issuing over-the-air updates for their handset without explaining why. It is assumed that there are issues with the software upgrade. The article also talks about Google saying that uninstalling all applications using the camera setup has helped eliminate the source of the problem to be Skype. "When this failed, they announced that this issue was a result of Skype on Android," Air Herald announced.

One particular problem has existed for months, shares Android Origin. Skype is allegedly causing battery drain and overheating of the device.

Once the issue with Skype has been announced, users allegedly started reporting their own experiences about the smartphone, which led to other problems being uncovered. To help users, Air Herald listed some things to help improve battery performance, such as toggling Airplane mode on and off before a call, clearing the cache, and restoring the device to its factory settings.

KpopStarz also reports that some users had their smartphones switching to speakerphone automatically when a call is active.

If these problems are because of the Android update, then it is safe to assume that HTC One M8's Windows Phone will not have the same issue.

HTC's One M8, which is its Android flagship phone, has been converted to a Windows Phone, says Engadget. However, despite that change, the site says that there is nothing different with the hardware, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

"If it fails, neither company loses much from the deal; since they are using an existing phone, the cost of design and engineering is far lower than it would be on a standalone device," says Engadget. Furthermore, Engadget thinks that the success of HTC's move may inspire other manufacturers to provide more Windows Phones.

However, there are still some cons to consider before purchasing the HTC One M8. According to Engadget, it has a mediocre camera, which is not that easy to access.
