'Longmire' fans still have a reason to celebrate as the crime drama may be given a final season.
After news broke out that the series would no longer continue for season 4, fans rallied behind Phillips and cited several reason why the show should be saved from cancellation.
'Longmire' star Lou Diamond Phillips (Henry) has been encouraging support from fans through his hourly retweets of messages from fans who want the program back on screen, Enstarz reported.
Fans and cast alike expressed their disappointment when A&E network elected not to renew the program. This week, producers market the show before Amazon and Netflix in hopes of finding a new home for the hit drama. If this move becomes successful, 'Longmire' will air during the second half of 2015.
Nielsen ratings declared that 'Longmire' had an average of 5.6 million viewers on its third season, and it came second to "Duck Dynasty" as the most popular show. This should be enough reason to puzzle and to send fans into frustration when the show got cancelled, Christian Today reported.
Carter Matt reported that Amazon and Netflix are considering the plan. Yahoo might also take it in but the interest is just less because of profitability issues: It depends on advertisers, not on subscriptions. Nonetheless, a certain level of optimism is still maintained as they believe the show will land online, where it doesn't matter how old you are as long as you watch the show-and Netflix with its streaming rights could be eyeing on this one.
In an article by The Wall Street Journal, the show has older audience which is not consistent with the rest of the network. The median age for A&E is 48, while the viewers of "Longmire" have a median age of 60.
"Longmire's fate is reflective of two growing trends in the television industry-the obsession of advertisers with younger viewers and the desire of TV networks to own as much of their content as possible," the WSJ article stated.
