It has been a bizarre summer for the 27 year old forward Alonzo Gee. He found himself bouncing from one team to the next, often being used as trade bait. He was traded on three different teams since the start of free agency, from the New Orleans Pelicans, Houston Rockets and the Sacramento Kings who recently waived his contract making his future yet again uncertain. Gee, whose has been training hard this summer, could see the Denver Nuggets though as his new home this coming season according to a report by Real GM:
The Denver Nuggets are actively pursuing free agent forward Alonzo Gee, sources with knowledge told RealGM. Despite dealing with the adversity of three offseason trades and his release from the Sacramento Kings on Thursday, Gee has worked out diligently on his overall game, including improving his jump shot, daily training sessions and getting into the best basketball shape of his career.
The Nuggets see Gee's game as an ideal fit to Bryan Shaw's up-tempo, fast-breaking system. The five year veteran's athleticism and defense could also the benefit the Nuggets. Court Zierk of Rant Sports writes:
I think Gee would be an instant upgrade over the players currently competing for the final roster spot: Quincy Miller, Jerrelle Benimon, Marcus Williams and Joe Alexander. He is extremely athletic and is also a tenacious perimeter defender, often tasked with guarding the opposing team's most talented wing player.
After the Nuggets ranked in the bottom of the NBA in the most important defensive categories last season, the teams is certainly looking to improve their defense and Gee will surely be a big part in the entire process. Gee would also be a nice insurance in case Danilo Gallinari goes down with yet another injury and if he struggles to get back into his old form early in the season coming off of a botched ACL repair.
