"Bones" Season 10 Spoilers: Producers Explain Last Week's Shocking Death as Season Begins

By

If you've been keeping up with "Bones," you've probably seen last week's episode, and thus know the seriously unexpected way it ends. We lost a character on "Bones," and now the rest of the season might just be devoted to solving that death.

Ready for the spoiler? If not, it might be time to turn away. But if so, here goes:

Lance Sweets is gone. In the season premiere, the character was found beaten to death by an unknown assailant, in a part of a conspiracy that threatens every single character on the series.

According to International Business Times, the second episode in the season had a lot to do with Sweets' death (not surprising), when the characters had to examine his body, and visit the diner without him.

As well, Brennan got to give a terrific speech about his lost friend, which capped off the remembrance of the character.

And according to a second piece in International Business Times, the episode ends with Booth and Brennan finally putting an end to the conspiracy that took Sweets' life.

As well, TVLine spoke to Stephen Nathan, executive producer of "Bones," about just why Sweets had to go.

"It was a complicated and very difficult decision for us. John's career as a writer and director has been taking off over the past few years, and... [this fall he's helming] a remake of National Lampoons' Vacation, which coincided with the start of the season."

"We didn't know what to do. And then we realized that this fit in very well with the conspiracy arc [that landed Booth in jail]. It gives us something very rich and very emotional to play within the first half of the season. Everybody's affected very deeply by this. And it also seemed to be a surprising way to start the season. Usually when characters meet their ends on a series it's at the end of the season."
