Salesforce is Most Innovative Company for 4 Straight Years According to Forbes Magazine; Alexion Pharmaceuticals Retains at Number 2

Salesforce.com retained its top spot as the "Most Innovative Companies" as listed by Forbes Magazine. This is the fourth straight year that the software firm is at the number one spot. Alexion Pharmaceuticals has been second for three consecutive years. The list includes companies that investors expect to make innovations today and in the future.

To determine their rank, the editors at Forbes used a measurement tool they call "Innovation Premium," which is a measure of the amount investors have bid up the stock price of a company above the value of its current business according to expectations of future innovations such as new products, services, and market.

To be included in the list, a company must have at least $10 billion in market capitalization, spend a minimum of 2.5% of their revenue from Research & Development and should have at least seven years of public data. Here now are the World's Top 5 Most Innovative Companies in 2014.

1. Salesforce.com

Market Capitalization: $35.87 billion

Innovation Premium : 75.9

Salesforce.com focuses its business on providing business cloud computing applications.
