'Longmire' Stars and Fans Rally Against A&E Cancellation, USA Network May Pick Up the Series

By

"Longmire" is still desperate to find a new home after its cancellation by A&E. But at least it's got some notoriety right now, because "Longmire" wasn't cancelled for normal reasons (the most normal reason of them all being "ratings").

"Longmire" was cancelled because it was a huge hit with the wrong audience- almost exclusively older viewers, who are not what any TV channel is trying to court.

The producers of "Longmire" have been shopping the show to various networks in order to get the series a new home- BreatheCast claims that Amazon, Netflix and USA are the three biggest contenders (Netflix does have a history of picking up cancelled cult hits like "Arrested Development"), but USA might be the biggest.

However, USA hasn't yet commented on the matter officially, leaving all this as a rumor status for now.

At least there's some enthusiasm to bring the show back- "Longmire" fans and cast members alike have been clamoring for the show's return on social Media. Christian Today has reports of several cast members tweeting their support for the show.

One example would be Lou Diamond Phillips, who tweeted the following:

"LouDPhilipps: @LaurieMit @mamalou8 Doing something you love with people you love and that makes others happy? I don't call that work! #LongLiveLongmire"

As well, star Katee Sackhoff is quoted as saying "key demographics in the business are gold, and that key demo is 18-to-25." So Sackhoff is definitely aware of what cost "Longmire" its slot at A&E.

And at least one person is benefitting from the cancellation of "Longmire"- Craig Johnson, who wrote the original novels that the TV series is based off of, has apparently been selling books like crazy in the wake of the show's cancellation. Enstars reports that the author has been all over social media, tweeting with followers about enthusiasm for the show and the novels.
