ABC's "Revenge" Cancelled After Only Four Seasons? New Report Cites Failing Ratings [SPOILERS] [Rumor]

By

"Revenge" ended on a bang last season, and you'd think that, naturally, ABC would want to continue the series as far into the future as possible. But a new report may point to the series ending after the upcoming fourth season.

According to Hollywood News Daily, the new rumor circulating is that the series will end next year. The rumor cites the series' low ratings, which may point to it being a false rumor. "Revenge" is a consistently strong contender in the ratings, and although the third season finale dropped by twelve percent from the second season finale, the second season was a ratings winner. A twelve percent drop might not be enough to cause the series to get the axe, although anything is possible.

However, there are always other reasons a series might end early. Some, like AMC's "Breaking Bad," end early because the creators only have a set amount of story in mind, and would not want to extend the series past the point solely for more revenue and more episodes.

It's not yet clear if that might be a reason behind "Revenge's" proposed cancellation.

The story, meanwhile, is still going strong, with Amanda Clarke (previously known as Emily Thorne, and portrayed by Emily VanCamp) placing antagonist Victoria Grayson in a mental institution, while Amanda's father, who was presumed to be murdered (in fact, his wrongful imprisonment and murder are the events that spurn on the titular "Revenge" that drives the series) is revealed to be very much alive.

It's not clear what will happen next in the fourth season, but it's expected that Amanda will meet with her long-lost father, and her complex plan for revenge will continue from there.

The fourth season of "Revenge" will premiere this fall, although the actual date is not set as of yet.
