Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini review: From quad-core to dual-core, is the performance still good? How does it compare with Samsung Grand Prime?

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is a viable option for those who want the Samsung S4 but prefer a smaller version. Despite its cut-down specs, it can give good performance for a variety of tasks.

According to KpopStarz, Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, though more compact and offers "less hardware muscle," can be the phone of choice for those wanting a smaller version of Samsung Galaxy S4. S4 Mini looks exactly like Samsung S4, except it comes with a 4.3-inch display, 1.5GB of RAM (same as of Samsung S5 Mini), and a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 clocking at 1.7GHz, shares Street Wise Tech. Its body is also lighter while still retaining the same glossy plastic body. The thin bezel and metal band seen on S4 still remains. Those looking for a smaller smartphone will like that S4 Mini can fit in one hand.

KpopStarz adds that the handset's screen is not that impressive with no Full HD display, but it boasts of a 540x960 pixel resolution and 256ppi on its responsive Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen surface. The colors register as bright and crisp, adds the article.

However, there is a notable difference in performance when compared with Samsung S4. Because of the smaller specs, the S4 Mini allegedly lags when used for playing games. S4 has a quad-core processor while S4 Mini only has dual-core, reminds the article. Street Wise Tech has a different review, though. The article says that the mini smartphone remains snappy even while gaming. What the article notes is the choppy UI, especially when there are plenty of widgets needing to load.

The battery is also only 1900 mAh, but it can supposedly last for a day of surfing the internet, playing games, and even streaming videos and music.

S4 Mini comes equipped with an 8MP primary camera and a 1.9MP secondary camera, which gives clear images.

Even when compared with another Samsung handset, the Grand Prime, Samsung S4 Mini is able to hold its own. According to The Fuse Joplin, Grand Prime has a 5-inch screen, which will be a deterrent to those looking for smaller handsets that pack a punch. Despite having the same screen resolution, Grand Prime only has 220ppi, which is less impressive than Samsung S4 Mini's. S4 Mini's AMOLED display is also more superior than the TFT LCD being used in Grand Prime.
