"Transformers 5" Release Date Confirmed: Optimus Prime Returns to Theaters in 2016

By

After "Transformers: Age of Extinction" crossed the billion dollar mark at the box office (which it did, this summer), the entire civilized world was expecting a "Transformers 5." But now, we have a little bit of indisputible proof- according to Hallels, the next film in the "Transformers" franchise has just been given an official release date.

Hallels has just put out a report claiming that "Transformers 5" will release on June 24, 2016- and not only that, but they've announced a screenwriter for the film: Ehren Kruger. Kruger has written the past three "Transformers" films, but not the original one in the series.

However, the one thing that Hallels lacks in any kind of detail about where the story of "Transformers 5" will take its heroes- all they add is that it will follow "the future adventures of the Autobots and the Decepticons." Which seems kind of obvious.

What we do know about the film, though, is that series director Michael Bay won't be directing the Transformers this time around. Which might cause some fans to cheer in the streets (Michael Bay has never been particularly well-recieved by film fans), but one person in particular would love for Bay to return.

That person? Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime.

A piece in Christian Times has a full quote from Cullen about his plea for Bay to return to the franchise.

"I have a great deal of respect for him. He generates a great deal of excitement and energy. He's really a hands-on director. My son is a stunt man and worked in Chicago doing a lot of the driving sequences...he said he's a very, very diligent, hands-on guy", says Cullen.

"He creates a great deal of energy and puts everybody on their toes. I would certainly miss him. I think he's brilliant, his mind is unbelievable. Michael if you're [reading] this, I certainly hope you are coming back."

As well, a piece in UInterview News adds that Mark Wahlberg may also be jumping ship. Expect a lot of new things in "Transformers 5," if Cullen can't convince his old cast members to stick around.
