Michael Bay Leaving "Transformers 5"- Is the Franchise in Jeopardy?

By

This may be bad news for the "Transformers" franchise. In a piece in USA Today, Michael Bay directly mentioned that he will not be directing the fifth "Transformers" film. According to the piece, the director will be "passing the baton" to a newcomer, and leaving the franchise for greener pastures.

"There's kind of a new chapter, a new direction in movies I want to make. I have a lot of stories to tell. And it's about flexing new muscles."

But considering that the "Transformers" franchise has always played out in trilogies- the first three making one trilogy, and then this summer's "Age of Extinction" and two future sequels rounding out the second- the franchise may sag without the inclusion of Bay.

According to Enstarz, Bay's departure is a definite negative mark for "Transformers." The site argues that Bay's direction is one of the hallmarks of the series, and without it, there may not be the same tremendous success that previous "Transformers" films have enjoyed.

As well, Enstarz adds that Bay passing off directorial duties to a newcomer would drastically delay the release date of "Transformers 5."

However, in an interview with Mstars, Steve Jablonsky, composer for the "Transformers" films, throws the status of "Transformers 5" completely up in the air.

"I literally don't know anything about Transformers 5. I don't even know if they're going to make it. So I haven't even thought about it at all."

Later, the composer adds, "I haven't thought any further beyond this one, Age of Extinction.

You probably know more than I do!

Nobody's said anything to me whether Transformers 5 is happening or not. If it does happen, then I will think about it at that point."

Given the amount of money each "Transformers" film has brought in, it seems seriously unlikely that a fifth film won't be put into production.

Check soon for more updates on "Transformers 5," and who Bay chooses to man the next sequel.
