HBO's "True Detective" will be returning for season 2 possibly in summer of 2015 with Colin Farrell and Vince Vaugh as confirmed cast. The "strong" and "phenomenal" second season will feature a story set in California involving the murder of a man related in a transportation deal.
According to Christian Today, "True Detective" season 2's storyline will apparently revolve around the death of a city manager involved in a transportation deal gone wrong. To make things more complicated, "satanic symbols and carvings on his chest" will be found on the victim, bringing in the concept of black magic into the case. However, nothing much is known about the roles of leads Farrell and Vaughn yet.
Fashion & Style mentions in an article that Farrell will be playing the role of one Ray Velcoro, a detective described to have "terrible problems with cocaine and anger management." Meanwhile, Vaughn will be Frank Semyon, who is working with the local mayor and is involved with the "high-speed railway system" to link the Northern and Southern portions of California. Semyon is also described as a "former thug-turned-businessman."
A third character has also been revealed by Fashion & Style, rumored to be played by Taylor Kitsch. Kitsch's alleged character is named Paul, a "handsome military vet" who has received suspension for sexual exploits. A fourth character in the name of Ani Bezzerides will also apparently be in the script. The article lists Rachel McAdams and Elisabeth Moss as some of the actresses linked with the role.
While Vaughn has remained tight-lipped about his role, Farrell has hinted about the script being strongly written and "phenomenal." Farrell spoke to Chicago Tribute, saying he's already read "half of the eight episodes."
According to the actor, he looks over the script to "help him visualize his character and set the direction for such role," adds Christian Today. Farrell also said that he would carve out some time with Vaughn to go over their roles.
Nothing is certain about "True Detective's" schedule yet, but according to Christian Today, if season 2 uses the same amount of time used in filming season 1, which took nine months, then the second season could premiere some time in summer of 2015.
Unfortunately for fans, Matthew McConaughey will not be returning to the show. In an interview with GQ, McConaughey revealed, "I've seen a lot of detective scripts since then, but none of them could wear the jockstrap of Rusty Cohle."
