After the tragic accident that the renowned Formula One racer had , Michael Schumacher is currently stable on his recovery. His sudden plight had put him under coma for months, and now, his medical staff confirmed the good news.
Schumacher, who had been engaged on a nightmare incident while skiing in Combe de Saulire, is not under coma anymore, as what Dr. Jean-Francois Payen, one of the first doctors who treated him since he was rushed at Grenoble University Hospital, said.
However, this primarily enters him to a new phase of recovery that may take up for couple of years. "I have seen some progress but I would say give him time. It's like other patients, we are in a timescale that ranges from one year to three years, so it takes patience," the medical expert explained on RTL, a French radio station.
In addition, the expert disclosed that there are great chances for the racer's fast recovery, but they must keep an eye on its slow-paced journey, for Schumacher's body to heal naturally. "Life after a brain injury is littered with stages," he adds. "It must progress, we hope, but we must give him time."
Schumacher first woke up since his accident early this April. Thereafter, he was sent to Lausanne's University Hospital in Switzerland in June; and there, the family kept their contact with Dr. Payen, who is the incumbent head of Grenoble University Hospital's Department of Anesthesiology.
"I kept seeing him, first at the University Hospital of Lausanne, and now at home. It's to see how he progresses and tell his wife and children what changes I observed," the expert said as quoted by Telegraph. Dr. Payen is one of the regular medical experts seeing the family since Day 1; and his statements are nonetheless the latest updates we may have so far.
"He's in very favourable conditions. This plays a big role. The family environment is anyway best for the patient. His wife is surrounded by excellent advice and has implemented all it takes for it to move forward."
To conclude, he spoke that he told Mrs. Schumacher that he would "give everything to improve the condition of her husband."
Meanwhile, the GoPro company had been previously blamed for the racer's drastic incident. According to IBT's report, Jean-Louis Moncet proposed that the GoPro camera was the primary reason, as it weakened the helmet, respectively. No further investigations have concluded this, however.
It is safe to say that Michael Schumacher's recovery is evidently vivid and that fans may hope for his public appearance soon. Stay tuned for more latest updates.
