Kpop's most popular female idol groups 2NE1 and Girls' Generation are currently in a stiff competition as both artists are nominated for the "Best Female Group" category at the upcoming Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) 2014.
In the midst of their battle for the prestigious award, Girls' Generation member Tiffany surprisingly 'liked' a photo of rival 2NE1 fans. This came as surprise for their fanbases, Sones and Blackjacks, who have been perceived as antagonistic to each other because of the groups' competition when it comes to popularity.
"Can't get over the fact that Tiffany likes a 2NE1 photo on Instagram," Twitter user YGDeprived commented.
Girls' Generation (SM Entertainment) and 2NE1 (YG Entertainment) made their comebacks within a week this year. Billboard observed that the two groups' almost simultaneous return as a sort of rivalry between the two leading K-pop female groups.
However, K-pop observers have witnessed that the two groups are apparently friendly to each other. In 2013, Girls' Generation member Sunny revealed that they learn a lot from 2NE1 and that they even follow their dance moves while they are in show's waiting room.
Meanwhile, back in 2010, 2NE1's Minzy thanked SNSD's Tiffany, Sooyoung, YoonA, and Hyoyeon in her "Thank You" section of their album, "To Anyone."
Currently, 2NE1 is in the lead for the MAMA 2014's Best Female Group category with 30.3% or 1.4 million votes. Girl's Generation, so far, has 24% of the votes (1.1 million).
One M-Wave's poll last September, the YG artist won the "FKC Ranking Chart" for best female group. 2NE1, composed of CL, Dara, Minzy, and Bom, received 3,000 votes, or 28.9% of all the votes. The group bested Girls' Generation in the poll, as well as other notable female acts such as T-ara, SISTAR, After School, miss A, 4minute, and KARA.
User 21X4 commented on M-Wave, "2NE1 won. Blackjacks please keep this spirit up for [the MAMA Awards] voting too if 2NE1 gets nominated!"
